Gun Violence Is Devastating the Millennial Generation
By Penny Okamoto, Executive Director of Ceasefire Oregon
33,000 Americans are murdered with guns every year. Gun violence is a huge problem for all Americans, but it disproportionately affects young people. 54% of people murdered with guns in 2010 were under the age of 25.
The Center for American Progress just released a report on the impact of gun violence on young people. So many individuals have had their lives cut short. They would have completed their educations, held jobs, had families, loved their children–all erased by gunfire.
Gun violence is devastating the Millennial generation, and as a result, among young Americans we see very high levels of support for background checks and other measures to reduce gun violence. Ceasefire Oregon is working tirelessly to educate folks and pass common-sense gun laws.
