Oregon law already allows gun owners to carry concealed firearms with a permit. Oregon’s state permit law is so lax, however, that not even Texas will honor an Oregon concealed handgun license permit.
Gun owners with concealed carry permits often brag they are the “best of the best” shooters that just doesn’t ring true. Oregon law does not require an applicant for an Oregon concealed handgun license permit to even touch a firearm. (Some counties require a minimum of hands-on shooting time.)
The language of the “proposed amendment” is not included in this bill. Will the Republicans attempt to weaken Oregon’s already very lax concealed carry law? Will they allow anyone to carry a gun without training? Without a background check?
We do not need to give a blank check to the arms industry. Gunshot wounds are already the leading cause of death for kids and teens in the United States. We cannot allow more bloodshed.
